Crowd Response:

"I'm blown away, people were asking me your name, and I heard multiple people exclaiming how sick you are. I've never heard a crowd talk so much about the DJ in such a short amount of time." ~ Elizabeth @ “Let the Music Play” - Output, Brooklyn, N.Y

"OMG that was the party of the year for me. I was so impressed by you, you had groupies! It was like watching "Club MTV" ~ K. Campbell @ “Let the Music Play” - Output, Brooklyn, N.Y

Amunet Speaks, the best female DJ in NYC, dances on stage during her Ambient music set

Amunet Speaks

DJ BIO / History

Amunet Speaks began her journey as a DJ in the late 90's under her birth name, Abagale Fischer. Her rise was swift and fierce – channeling broad musical talent through an obsession with underground dance music culture. Her refined technical skill with vinyl (often veering towards turntablism) led to a successful career early on, resulting in a residency at the famous Club Firestone in Orlando and appearances at Blue Lounge in Miami, Simon’s in Gainesville, and underground raves throughout south Florida. The renowned Ivano Bellini routinely played her promo-mix CD at Crobar in South Beach, early in the night as people were entering, prior to his set.

Just before moving to NYC, Abagale also toured in The Dominican Republic where she maintained a residency at Abacus in Santo Domingo and Onno’s in Cabarete, and regularly headlined the same venues where Sasha, John Digweed, and Danny Howells performed. She was also asked to judge various DJ competitions and be interviewed on the radio, for which she happily obliged. After leaving the D.R, she settled in NYC and slowly began piecing together her new life and career.  Within a few years she was doing gigs with her partner in crime, Connie, filling in for Alex Pearce at Le Souk, and beginning to make appearances throughout the city at places like The Porch, Bar 13, Open House, and Karma. From 2009-2013, she kicked off an esteemed ambient/downtempo party named, “MELT,” and began making music..

Around this time, she met Oona Dahl and Amber Cox, and the seeds of their collaboration, “Temple” were planted. In 2015, Amunet teamed up with Kate Simko under the moniker “Amunet Shah,” leading to live vocal performances at Le Poisson Rouge, Output and Fabric in London. She's been a featured vocalist on numerous releases and is a well respected singer/songwriter. But her true power lies in the ability to handle both the production, and audio engineering of her own releases, which is still quite rare today. (see Main EPK for discography).

In 2017, Amunet returned to her roots of playing records and began setting the city afire with her arsenal of classic gems. By 2018, her DJ career was taking off once again with a new residency at Output, and guest spots at TBA, Rose Gold, and a DJ set with live vocals at Cinderblock People record store in Harlem --- then, 2020 arrived.

In July 2024, she returned as Amunet Speaks, with a focus on production, engineering and music videos (see Main EPK and review from Nightclubber).

Amunet’s history as a DJ spans nearly three decades, with sets known to traverse multiple eras and genres, they exhibit a rare energy and technique highly sought after in today’s social media fatigued landscape. Moreover, her core values within the scope of DJ culture remain the same as they were in the 90’s.

In an industry wrought with irony and influencers, she’s proven her commitment to the long haul. But perhaps most ironically of all, she’s only just now - really getting started.
