Amunet's sublime technical skill and refined sound as a DJ (see DJ EPK), commanded an equal level of expertise as a producer/engineer. She’s spent the past 15 years relentlessly honing her craft in the studio to bring her creations to life...
Prior to the pandemic, she offered up her singing and songwriting to a variety of notable producers. The collabs with Kate Simko & Tevo Howard led her to perform live with them at Fabric in London and received support from Terry Francis and Roger Sanchez. Her highly acclaimed vocals for Slumber’s (Amber Cox & Oona Dahl), “Temple,” ushered Miyagi’s remix into the top 100 at Beatport.
Amunet Speaks (formerly Amunet Shah) wrote, produced, and engineered both versions of her premier solo release, “Verity of Starting” and does not use AI audio technology in her productions. Her sound is raw and real - veering away from overproduction, samples, and loops - while leaning heavy into her drum machine and live recorded synths.
Her most recent "Inside Cut" version, is perhaps best described as “gothic breakbeat,” “indie dance,” or perhaps even “new wave/synth wave breakbeat.” It’s a remix that delivers thought provoking lyrics and distinctive vocal tonality, atop thick layers of retro bass synths and analog drums - a work that crosses many genre boundaries. The remix hearkens back to a more 80’s-oriented sound reminding us that electronic dance music is capable of so much more than a fly by night club track.
And her evocative visuals serve as an invitation to enter her inner world. In Amunet’s headspace the nexus of music and video are intrinsically tied.. “Verity of Starting (Inside Cut)” has been released on her own imprint, Fine by Six, as of February 14th, 2025.
Amunet is also featured on Alexander Gentil's premier album, "Raw Planet," which was released worldwide as of October 25th. Gentil, a pro audio engineer working in Manhattan at Mercy Sound Recording Studios, discovered Amunet's music and loved it so much he asked to collaborate immediately and include her voice on the album. Their song, "Bodies" is track #7 on the album, which is available now on VINYL. Read the story behind the album, and listen HERE.
